The Recreation Improvements Project is currently underway at all parks throughout St. John the Baptist Parish. As a result, construction is in progress in isolated areas at each park bringing heavy equipment and construction materials to the sites. Residents and visitors are asked to keep away from construction sites and materials as a safety precaution. While full park closures are not expected at this time; notifications will be released if necessary.
Based on the Parks Master Plan developed in 2013, $2.3 million in park improvements were designed through extensive discussion with Administrative staff, Council members, the Recreation Advisory Board, as well as residents. Improvements to every Park in the Parish will be funded through the 2014 Bond Issue and include two spray parks, a dog park, new play sets, gazebos, fitness stations, restroom facilities and other aesthetic upgrades.
The project is set to be completed in January of 2016. Residents can view the improvements plans by visiting the Parks and Recreation Department webpage on the parish website at www.sjbparish.com.
