The St. John the Baptist Parish Utilities Department will begin repairing a 30 inch wastewater line located at Belle Terre Blvd. and Airline Highway tonight, Wednesday, February 20, between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.  As a result, residents located north of Airline Hwy from River Parishes Hospital to Main Street and all residents from Main Street to the St. John/St. Charles Parish line are asked to conserve water by limiting the amount of discharge into the wastewater collection system.  Activities such as washing clothes, running dishwashers, washing cars, and all other non-essential activities that discharge into the collection system should be limited while repairs are being made.

In an effort to limit the inconvenience, the Utilities Department will work through the night to repair the line with expectations to complete the work by 7:00 a.m.  Notifications will be released in the morning with additional information.  “It is critical that residents minimize the amount of water placed into the wastewater system while crews make the necessary repairs,” said Utilities Director Virgil Rayneri.

The St. John Parish water system is not impacted as a result of the repair work to the wastewater manhole, and water is safe for consumption.
