ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – Residents are invited to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at events being held in the Parish.
On Monday January 21, a march will take place in LaPlace at 9:00 a.m., proceeding up Belle Pointe Blvd. down Airline Hwy to 1801 W. Airline Hwy. Those interested in marching are asked to begin lining up at 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of 400 Ory Dr. and Belle Pointe Blvd. A rally will immediately follow the march at the Percy Herbert Building (1801 W. Airline Hwy) featuring Judge Sylvia Dunn as the guest speaker. The West Bank Civic Association will also hold its annual march and rally on Monday, beginning at noon at the Roland Borne Sr. Memorial Library, 2979 La. Highway 18 in Edgard. A program at the West Bank Community Center will follow the march and will feature Roy Quaziere as the guest speaker.
This year marks the 28th anniversary of the federal holiday honoring Dr. King's birthday and his advancement of civil rights in the United States and around the world. Please join the St. John Community in commemoration.
