A tornado watch is currently in effect until 2:00 p.m. today for St. John the Baptist Parish and the surrounding parishes. Heavy winds are currently taking place throughout most of the area.
There is a slight chance of severe thunderstorms today as a vigorous line of thunderstorms move through the area from the east with the main threat being damaging winds and isolated tornados.
St. John remains under a Flash Flood Watch and a Coastal Flood Advisory. Rainfall rates will be very high in thunderstorms and heavier showers resulting in street flooding in low lying areas due to already saturated grounds.
St. John the Baptist Parish Department of Emergency Operation is in constant contact with the Weather Service and is closely monitoring weather updates.
