A slight risk of severe thunderstorms is expected for Friday, December 28, 2012. An area of low pressure will develop near the southwest Louisiana coast and move across the outlook area during the day Friday. Widespread light rain is expected to onset Friday morning with a warm front, then transition to numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms as the cold front approaches in the afternoon and into the evening. Some of the storms may become strong to briefly severe with the primary threat being damaging winds.
An isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out as the lower level winds will be supportive of rotation prior to wind shift. The threat for severe weather will end with the cold frontal passage from west to east during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
Residents are asked to call the 9-1-1 Emergency Center to report any issues or concerns during the rain event. The St. John the Baptist Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness is in contact with the National Weather Service to receive the latest weather updates and forecasts.
