Although isolated thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and this evening as a cold front moves into the regions; the National Weather Service does not anticipate severe weather through the night. As a result all bonfires are expected to light at approximately 7:00 p.m. tonight, Monday, December 24 in St. John the Baptist Parish following inspection by the local fire departments.
A severe weather outbreak will likely impact the area on Christmas Day as a weather ssystem moves through beginning early morning through the evening. The main threats will be damaging winds and tornadoes; however, heavy rainfall and large hail will be possible locally. The threat of severe weather is expected to be primarily between the afternoon and evening hours for areas north of Interstate 10 and 12. Until the cold front sweeps through the area late Tuesday evening or early Tuesday night, severe weather will be possible.
As many will be visiting family and friends on Christmas Day, motorists are asked to drive with caution on wet highways and in severe weather. Please call 9-1-1 to report any issues or concerns.
