ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH –  Marathon Petroleum Company, Louisiana Refining Division, donated $300,000 toward rebuilding efforts for St. John the Baptist Parish residents. “It’s an honor and a privilege for us to be located in St. John and we are committed to providing assistance to the parish,” said Jaime De La Cruz, Human Resource Manager.

The donation will be allocated through the St. John the Baptist Parish Long-Term Recovery Group (SJBP LTRG) which is tasked with providing spiritual, emotional, physical and financial resources to those with the greatest need. Residents can call the Home Repair Hotline at (985) 359-0254 Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., email, or visit to register for assistance. “We are grateful to Marathon for their contribution at a time when St. John needs it the most and we look forward to continuing to work with them in the future,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom.

The mission of the SJBP LTRG is to meet and work together to address the needs of residents of St. John the Baptist Parish in response to damage sustained from Hurricane Isaac and subsequent disasters as needed.  They strive to provide coordinated management of long-term recovery and advocate for ongoing resources and preparedness within all voluntary agencies active in disasters.  Membership includes participating faith-based, non-profit, governmental, business, and other organizations and agencies providing financial support, material, and/or labor for the work of the group.  They have raised $435,000 toward recovery, as well as allocated rebuilding materials to repair over 200 homes.  To date, the parish has received assistance from more than 1,000 volunteers working over 12,000 hours gutting homes, cutting and removing trees, repairing fences, painting, replacing insulation and sheetrock and mold remediation.

A volunteer reception center is open for anyone interested in volunteering or donating construction materials, tools, and/or supplies for rebuilding. The reception center and multi-agency warehouse are located at 1929 W. Airline Hwy, and are open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   If interested in helping, contact the Volunteer Assistance Hotline at 985-359-1024.
