ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – The St. John the Baptist Parish Department of Parks and Recreation kicked off the 2012-2013 basketball season at 6:00 p.m. Monday, December 10 at Regala Gymnasium. The gymnasium was filled with excited players, parents and coaches ready to start the season.
The season will consist of six (6) 5&6 year old teams, five (5) 7&8 year old teams, five (5) 9&10 year old teams and four (4) 11&12 year old teams. Games will be played (depending on the week) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at Regala Gymnasium in Reserve. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 18 and younger. Schedules of the basketball games have been posted on the Parks and Recreation Department webpage at www.sjbparish.com. In addition to weekly games, St. John the Baptist Parish will host the 9 year old State Biddy Basketball tournament at Regala Gymnasium in March 2013. Participants will also play in invitational tournaments throughout the year, including one held at Regala Gymnasium.
“I want to first say thanks to my staff for their efforts in preparing for the 2012-2013 season,” said Parks and Recreation Director Terrence Jones. “Secondly, to the parents and volunteer coaches and volunteers for partnering with the parish in our quest to provide a positive and fun Biddy Basketball program. The 220 participants will benefit from this experience tremendously. GO WARRIORS!”
The department staff is working with a consultant to conduct facility and park assessments to develop a comprehensive plan for repairs, upgrades and additions at all parish facilities.
