ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – St. John residents who sustained damage as a result of Hurricane Isaac have until the close of business on Thursday, November 29 to register for FEMA disaster assistance. Also effective at the close of business on November 29, the Disaster Recovery Center in LaPlace will close and transition into a U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC).
FEMA and SBA will co-locate in the center and continue to support residents and businesses in St. John Parish. The center will open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 2015 West Airline Hwy in LaPlace. For SBA information or to apply online, visit www.sba.gov or call 1-800-659-2955. St. John the Baptist Parish has established a Volunteer Reception Center to assist residents through volunteer services. Residents still needing assistance are encouraged to contact the Volunteer Reception Center at 985-359-0254 or visit the center at 1933 West Airline Hwy, LaPlace, LA 70068.
A Long Term Recovery Group has also been developed to assist residents who are uninsured or underinsured or have unmet needs. The group is comprised of an executive board and five sub-committees including: volunteer and donation coordination, construction/clean up coordination, case management, emotional and spiritual care, and unmet needs. This group is working closely with the Volunteer Reception Center, non-profit organizations, faith-based organizations and local volunteers to meet the needs of the community.
Applicants were granted an additional sixty (60) days from the previous deadline to file an insurance claim with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Claims can be filed through the end of January 2013.
