ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – St. John residents who sustained damage as a result of Hurricane Isaac have until Thursday, November 29 to register for FEMA disaster assistance. In addition, the Disaster Recovery Center located at 1931 W. Airline Hwy. in LaPlace will discontinue its services at the close of business on November 29. The hours for the center are currently 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Residents, may register for FEMA assistance or check their application status online at www.disasterassistance.govor by calling 1-800-621-3362 or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week. Those who have already applied but were denied FEMA aid have the right to appeal that decision. Applicants who wish to appeal any ineligibility decision should submit a letter to FEMA explaining in detail why they believe the decision is incorrect. The appeal letter must be postmarked, received by fax or personally submitted at a Disaster Recovery Center within 60 days of the date on the decision letter.

Residents who were denied FEMA can also contact the Volunteer Reception Center at 985-359-0254 to inquire about home repair assistance. The Volunteer Reception Center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 1933 West Airline Hwy in LaPlace.
