Friday, September 28, 2012 – 5:00 p.m.
Although scattered thunderstorms are expected to diminish this afternoon, St. John the Baptist Parish is currently under a weather advisory as continued thunderstorms are expected throughout the weekend and a low pressure system moves through the area.
A few storms may become strong with wind gusts approaching 40 mph with occasional lightning and heavy rainfall through the weekend. Accumulation of persistent rainfall may cause street flooding. Residents are asked to remove any debris that may be near catch basins and drainage systems.
A cold front is expected to follow the rain event as a result of high pressure following the system.
Residents are asked to monitor changes in weather reports through Monday. If emergencies or unsafe conditions become an issue, residents are asked to contact the 9-1-1 Communications Department by dialing 9-1-1.
