The 40th Annual Andouille Festival has been cancelled due to Hurricane Isaac and ongoing recovery efforts in the parish. The Festival was slated to take place October 26-28 at the Hwy 51 Park/St. John Civic Center in LaPlace. In planning for the Festival, the grounds were being prepped and additional infrastructure installed for an increased number of food vendors when Hurricane Isaac made landfall. As a result of the widespread damage caused by Isaac, assessments are underway and parish facilities and grounds are being repaired.
Parish President Robottom stated, "The Andouille Festival is a parish-sponsored and managed event. We have discussed it with various departments, including Economic Development, Public Works, Human Resources, Fire Department, and the Sheriff's Office considering everything in our power to maintain the dates of the Festival. However, due to the massive damage from the storm and long-term recovery efforts underway, we are unable to move forward with the festival next month. My number one priority is Parish recovery - removing debris, helping residents return to their homes and businesses, and making repairs to parish facilities and infrastructure are critical. To dedicate resources to the Andouille Festival now would require essential employees being removed from our recovery efforts."
All vendors that submitted deposits will be issued refunds. To ensure the economic continuity of the Parish, the Administration is in discussions with the River Region Tourist Commission and the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism to promote ongoing tourism efforts. Torri Buckles, Director of Economic Development, stated, "While the festival has been cancelled, there are other initiatives that are underway to promote the food and culture of St. John the Baptist Parish. All vendors that registered for the Andouille Festival will be given first priority regarding these promotional efforts."
