Friday, September 21, 2012

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – St. John Parish Residents can now separate household hazardous waste and e-goods (electronics) into their debris piles to be placed on the curb for DRC to pick-up.

Examples of household hazardous waste:

  • Drain cleaners
  • Oil paint
  • Motor oil
  • Anti-freeze
  • Fuel
  • Poisons
  • Pesticides
  • Medical waste
  • Cleaning chemicals

A tentative schedulefor debris pick up for Friday, September 21, has been posted online and will be updated as scheduling changes occur over the weekend. The Director of Public Works is providing direction to contractors to ensure all areas are addressed, specifically areas with heavy debris.  Public Works crews are also utilizing their two collection trucks to assist in picking up vegetative debris.

Progressive Waste Garbage will have additional trucks in the area this weekend picking up garbage bags.

Road blocks should be expected in neighborhoods while debris and garbage is collected.  Notifications are forwarded to emergency responders should emergency vehicles need to pass, and information is posted online and on Channel 15 as it is received.

We ask for your patience as there is an unprecedented amount of damage and debris throughout the parish and we ask that you drive safely with the large number of trucks and equipment on our roadways.
