Beacon of Hope Resource Center, a New Orleans based non-profit organization, will host a free community rebuilding seminar for the residents of LaPlace on Wednesday, September 19 at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church School Gymnasium from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The goal of the seminar is to help St. John Parish residents get the information needed to make smart rebuilding decisions and also to help residents avoid becoming victims of contractor fraud.
Speakers will include FEMA, SBA, the Attorney General’s Office, and other nonprofits who are currently offering resources in the LaPlace area. The agenda will consist of topics such as:
• FEMA programs
• SBA programs
• Nonprofit agency programs
• Volunteer assistance
• Avoiding contractor fraud
• Gutting and cleaning steps
• Myths about black mold
• Managing a construction project
St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church is located at 529 West 5th Street in LaPlace. The event is open to the public.
