Friday, September 14, 2012

In the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac, St. John the Baptist Parish has been blessed with volunteer groups assisting residents in their clean-up efforts. Additional volunteers will be forthcoming and the Parish Administration has established a hotline and email address to better coordinate these efforts.  Beginning Saturday, September 15, residents in need of volunteer assistance, specifically with gutting or repairing their homes, can call (985) 359-0254 or email a request to

Volunteers will be on hand to answer the hotline Monday through Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Residents should be prepared to provide a contact name, physical address and telephone number along with the type of assistance needed.  Contact information will be forwarded to a volunteer organization to assess the home and coordinate volunteers to fill the request.  The hotline is for “volunteer assistance only”.   Priority will be given to the uninsured, underinsured, elderly, single mothers and individuals with disabilities. The hotline is not to schedule contract work.

Anyone interested in making a monetary donation to assist in purchasing materials and supplies needed for long-term recovery, please go to or make a check payable to “Hurricane Isaac Recovery Fund” and mail it to First National Bank, 377 Belle Terre Blvd., LaPlace, LA 70068. All donations are tax deductible and will go directly to recovery efforts.  There are no administrative fees.
