Restoration Shows Signs of Recovery Efforts

WATER SERVICE: Water Service has been restored to all residents in LaPlace. LaPlace and West Bank residents currently remain under a boil water advisory until test results from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals show the samples are negative for contaminants.

FEMA: St. John the Baptist Parish is one of 5 parishes approved for individual assistance (IA), disaster relief, and federal funding.

Individuals and households who sustained losses from Hurricane Isaac and who’s losses are not covered by insurance can begin applying for assistance by registering online at, or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY)

A disaster recovery center is being set up at this time, please stay tuned for location and times. Individuals are encouraged to go online to view the necessary documents.

Disaster SNAPS: All low-to moderate-income Louisianans should pre-apply online for Disaster Food Stamps at or call 1-888-LAHELPU (524-3578). Information needed for pre-applications is as follows:
o Name,
o social security number,
o birth date for each household member
o Parish where you currently live
o Residential address
o Monthly income for each household member
o Liquid resources for each household member such as:
         Cash on Hand
         Checking Accounts
         Savings Accounts
         Certificates of Deposit (CDs)
         Money Market Accounts

POWER: Since this morning 118 customers have received power; however, 17,447 customers remain without power.

Throughout the day Entergy is worked in Belle Pointe, Sugar Ridge, Cambridge, Riverlands, New Era, River Forest, Hwy 18 on the West Bank, Airline Hwy, and areas South of Airline Hwy. An updated report will be provided by Entergy in the morning.

MEDICAL: A Medical facility is open for minor medical conditions & RX refills at the Medical Office Building in front of River Parishes Hospital in LaPlace at 500 Rue de Sante Blvd.
Mental Health Counseling Center is now open at New Wine Christian Fellowship, 1929 West Airline Hwy, LaPlace.

River Parishes Hospital is now open functioning as a primary care center running with 20 inpatient beds. All equipment is working; however, staff is currently limited.

EVACUATION PHONE LINE: Call 2-1-1 for location information on evacuees and for shelter information.

SCHOOL: The St. John the Baptist Parish Public School System is currently working on a contingency plan for school as some schools experience water damage and power outages. The St. John Parish Public School system will have more information on school sessions on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
RECOVERY – Preliminary damage assessments are being made at public buildings and infrastructures. Debris removal and monitoring is important.
Beginning tomorrow Red Cross will begin damage assessments throughout the parish. Updated information regarding their plan of action will be provided in the morning.
