Flood Advisory for St. John the Baptist Parish

Friday, August 17, 2012

As of 2:56 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a flood advisory until 4:00 p.m. for St. John the Baptist Parish, specifically Reserve and LaPlace.

One hour rainfall rates of two inches per hour are being produced in these storms and radar indicates that as much as two inches of rain has fallen in the last hour.  St. John the Baptist Parish Public Works crews are monitoring drainage pumping stations which are currently functioning properly.

This heavy rainfall will lead to flooding of low-lying areas in LaPlace and Reserve. Additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches are possible in the area.

Please do not drive vehicles into areas where the water covers the roadway as water depths may be too great to allow vehicles to cross safely.

Please stay tuned to local weather stations, St. John the Baptist Parish website at and Facebook for updated information.  As further updates are received, more information will be released.  To report high water or any emergencies, please call 911 who will dispatch the appropriate departments for assistance.
