St. John Parish Joins NACo Prescription Drug Program

Monday, July 30, 2012

Residents of St. John the Baptist Parish will have the opportunity to buy prescriptions at a lower price by obtaining a NACo Prescription Discount Card, a free program that offers discounts at participating pharmacies on prescriptions that are not covered by insurance. The discount card allows participants to save an average of 24 percent off the pharmacy’s regular retail price and participants will always receive the lowest price available. The program is sponsored throughout the United States by the National Association of Counties (NACo) through a partnership with CVS Caremark.

"In these difficult economic times, this is an opportunity for our residents to save money on prescription drugs", said Parish President Natalie Robottom. The card may be used by all residents regardless of age, income or existing health coverage. Only one card per family is needed and there are no restrictions or limits on how many times it can be used.  In addition, participants can use the discount cards for pet prescriptions. “I am so pleased the council and administration worked together to offer this free program to our residents who will benefit from any savings this program offers,” said Councilwoman District 7, Cheryl Millet.  “It is has been shown that this program does work for those who either do not have insurance or their prescriptions are not covered,” she added.
For safety reasons and if the prescriptions were obtained with the NACo card, the program will alert pharmacists when one medication may have an interaction with another medication the cardholder is taking.
