In preparation for the 2010 hurricane season, St. John received training on the Phoenix Registration system from the Department of Children and Family Services. This system will aid in the registration and tracking of citizens during a declared disaster from their departure from St. John to their arrival at the designated shelters in North Louisiana. The Parish has entered into a memorandum of understanding with parishes in North Louisiana to house our residents.
The main goal of this system is to allow families to locate loved ones during the evacuation process and to allow the Parish to track citizens throughout the sheltering process. This process will also allow for tracking of luggage and pets. The evacuation points are the Edgard Courthouse on the Westbank and East St. John Elementary School on the Eastbank. Ten Parish staff members received training on use of the Phoenix Registration System and will conduct the registration of all residents being evacuated by the Parish at the East St. John Elementary School registration point.
"The Phoenix Registration System will help the Parish evacuate our residents during a declared emergency while ensuring that we, as well as the families, are able to locate their loved ones during the entire process" said Parish President Natalie Robottom.
