|7&8 White Sox vs. Dodgers Game|
The Department of Parks and Recreation kicked off the 2012 Baseball Season at 9:00 a.m. last Saturday morning at REGALA Park.
Parish President Natalie Robottom opened two of the scheduled games by throwing out the first pitch, at least one of which was a strike. With the advantage of beautiful weather, the park was filled with excited players, parents, coaches, and fans enjoying the seven baseball games scheduled throughout the day. “It was an extremely successful day and all of the children were excited to begin the season. It seems like just yesterday that I was at REGALA watching my son play baseball,” stated Parish President Natalie Robottom.
The season will consist of five (5) Tee-ball teams, three (3) 7-8 teams, three (3) 9-10 teams, three (3) 11-12 teams, and two (2) 13-14 teams. Games will be played Monday through Thursday at REGALA Park in Reserve and Ezekiel Jackson Park in Garyville. Schedules of the baseball games have been posted online on the Parks and Recreation Department page at www.sjbparish.com. “We are hoping to host tournaments that attract teams from other leagues and from outside the parish to raise funds for our program. The West Bank Complex
is a perfect location for tournaments and it will give us an opportunity to utilize that exceptional facility,” said Terrence Jones.
The Department staff is in the process of conducting facility and park assessments in an effort to develop a comprehensive plan for repairs, upgrades and additions at all parish facilities.
