St. John Parish Gears Up for "Clean Sweep 2012"

St. John Parish Gears Up for

St. John the Baptist Parish Officials and the Keep St. John Beautiful Committee are gearing up for the 6th Annual Clean Sweep event on Saturday, April 14, 2012. 

Clean Sweep 2012 will consist of a parish wide clean-up day involving many government agencies, neighborhood associations, civic groups, schools, and churches. Education materials, automobile litter bags, and t-shirts, will be distributed to create awareness during the clean-up.  Recycling locations will be parish wide, supervised inmate crews will focus on drainage canals and roadways, abandoned buildings will be targeted for demolishment, and litter enforcement will be emphasized. 

In addition, Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day will be held in the Plaza LaPlace Shopping Center, 1921 Airline Highway in LaPlace, for proper disposal of hazardous materials such as paint, tires, used oil, batteries, scrap metal, appliances, electronics, etc.

“Support for our beautification efforts is needed from residents and businesses parish wide. We encourage local business owners join us and beautify their store fronts,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom. 

Following the clean-up event, free food, refreshments, and music will be provided in appreciation of the volunteer work and commitment to keeping St. John beautiful. 

Groups and individuals are asked to sign up in advance online at or call Dana at 985-652-9569 to reserve specific neighborhoods or public areas to clean.  Supplies can be picked up in advance on Friday, April 13 2:30 p.m. at the Percy Hebert Building or on Saturday at the Highway 51 Park.
