St. John the Baptist Parish Council members are eager to open the parish pool for the summer, but Parish President Natalie Robottom said Tuesday that the parish is still looking for summer lifeguards.
You can't open a public swimming pool without lifeguards and St. John the Baptist Parish is looking for them, Parish President Natalie Robottom told the Parish Council Tuesday night.
"We have one lifeguard right now, " Robottom said. "Last year, we had 6 or 7."
The parish is advertising for the job and has contacted organizations and universities around the area to attract applicants, she said.
Councilman Lennix "Tweet" Madere said he envisions the parish sponsoring swim teams and having extended hours for the pool, in addition to other summer activities.
"We've got to keep the kids busy in the summer," he said.
