Due to weather delays, the Department of Transportation and Development has extended the permit for filming of “Django Unchained” at Whitney and Evergreen Plantations through Wednesday, March 21. As a result, Highway 18 will remain closed intermittently with some through traffic from 7:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. at this location on Monday, March 19 through Wednesday, March 21. Motorists are asked to continue to detour onto Highway 3127, and residents will continue to have access to neighborhoods and businesses.
According to film executives, with the change to daylight savings time, they have started filming later in the day to allow early bird traffic to move through the area before initiating road closures. They apologize for the inconvenience to the West Bank and St. John the Baptist Parish, but filming delays were related to weather conditions.
Motorists are asked to pay close attention to the electronic boards and detour signs which are placed in various locations on the West Bank to alert drivers of road closures as changes may occur. The ferry will remain open weather permitting, and the Edgard Courthouse will be open for regular operations. Emergency responders, including fire fighters, EMTs with Acadian Ambulance Services and Sheriff’s Deputies are permitted to drive through the closure at any time in the event of an emergency.
