A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for St. John the Baptist Parish until 2:45 p.m. today, Monday, March 12, 2012. According to the National Weather Service Meteorologists, “a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail has been detected.” The storm was most recently located near Gramercy moving east at 20 miles per hour.
While not immediately likely, a tornado may still develop. If a tornado is spotted, act quickly and move to a place of safety in a sturdy structure, such as a small interior room. If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail, and deadly cloud to ground lightening. People outside should move to a shelter preferably inside a strong building but away from windows.
