The KCS Holiday Express Train will make a stop in St. John Parish on Saturday, December 3, 2011. The festive six car train featuring Santa Claus and his elves will be open to the public beginning at 4:00 pm along the train tracks between Hemlock St. and Elm St. in LaPlace. The 11th Holiday Annual Express Train will visit 25 communities on 27 dates in seven states throughout the Kansas City Southern Railway Company service territory.
The Holiday Express features a smiling tank car “Rudy”; a flatcar carrying Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village, a ginger bread boxcar; the elves workshop; the reindeer stable; and a little red caboose. “I invite all of you to come out and bring your children for a tour of the Holiday Express Train. We are fortunate to be on the KCS holiday route this year, so please take the time to help us kick off the holiday season,” said Parish President Robottom.
The KCS Holiday Express Train has a charitable component to its visits, making contributions of gift cards from the KCS Charitable Fund to the local Salvation Army to provide warm clothing and other necessities for children in need. The KCS Holiday Express has donated over $1 million in gift cards to this cause.
The Holiday Express Train was created in 2001 by volunteers who dedicated over 8,000 hours to renovate rail cars into a holiday spirited, brightly lighted and exciting train for children. Admission is free for all and is open to the public. The KCS Railroad ensures all children will view the train before closing.
