Although levee restrictions continue to delay several important capital projects, contracts were awarded for the Homewood Drainage Basin Project and the Raw Water Intake Structure Walkway at the Edgard Water Plant.
Following rebidding of the Homewood Drainage Basin Project, the low bid was awarded to Civil Construction Contractors, LLC of Hahnville. The contract amount of $1,072,471.26 is $77,500.00 less than the engineer’s estimated construction cost and includes the base bid and both alternates. The project is funded through the 2009 bond issue and upon completion, the project will increase the capacity of the Reserve pumping station and provide relief to residents from Homewood to Central Avenue who experience repeated flooding.
Cecil D. Gassiott, LLC of Alexandria was awarded the Raw Water Intake Structure Walkway project at the Edgard Water Plant for $102,516.00. This project is funded by the Local Government Assistance Program for $67,000 and the 2009 bond issue for $35,516.00. “Completion of this elevated walkway will provide safe access for our employees to the water intake structure on the Mississippi River,” stated Parish President Natalie Robottom. Construction of the walkway is expected to be completed within 120 days of the start date, which may be delayed because of restrictions along the river.
Administration also received authorization to renew a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the River Parishes Convention, Visitors, and Tourist Commission. The Commission will continue to promote, market, and book the center for the next two years. “This agreement serves both the parish and the Commission who are working toward the same goal, attracting tourists and business to St. John Parish”, said Robottom.
