The Rotary Club of LaPlace donated $3,000 to the St. John Animal Shelter to help defray the cost of vaccinating shelter animals against the Parvo Virus. This is a highly contagious and deadly virus that often targets puppies. Early vaccinations help prevent the spread of the virus in a shelter environment. On hand at the shelter for the donation were Parish President Natalie Robottom and Rotarians Sheila Butler, Anita Dabon, Beverly Harris, Bill Ironside, Shawn Steinkamp, Cheryl Millet, Aimee Perret, Melanie Basile and Mike Tregre.
Funds for this year’s donation were raised during the annual “Pups in the Park on 51” charity dog walk held at the US Highway 51 Park. The event was a huge success with over 400 participants and their dogs taking part in a one mile walk and best dressed contest. “Rotary does an excellent job sponsoring and encouraging participation in this event. We appreciate their support of the shelter and other animal-related charities,” stated Parish President Natalie Robottom.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Animal Shelter is open Monday through Saturday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Visit the website below to view the animals available for adoption.
