Reserve Area Drainage Improvements Project Underway

Reserve Area Drainage Improvements Project UnderwayThe Reserve Area Drainage Improvements Project is underway and is expected to last approximately five months. The drainage project will be constructed in three phases:

  • Phase I – West 1st Street (Cornland to Railroad Avenue) and Parker Lane (Leblanc Street to Railroad Avenue)
  • Phase II – West 3rd Street (Leblanc Street to Railroad Avenue) and Ram Ally
  • Phase III – West 6th Street and West 7th Street

As the project moves forward, notifications will be sent to residents who live South of Railroad Avenue between West 1st Street and West 7th Street. “We do not anticipate any road closures; however we encourage all residents to proceed with caution near the construction area,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom.

The Reserve Area Drainage Improvements Project will alleviate flooding in the area and will consist of replacing the existing system of ditches and culverts with a new system of concrete culverts. As part of this project, water outages will occur when distribution lines to fire hydrants are replaced. Residents will be notified by letters and FirstCall notifications in advance of water outages and subsequent Boil Water Advisories.

The drainage project was engineered by Shread-Kuyrkendall & Associates, Inc. and is being constructed by LA Contracting Enterprises, LLC of Thibodaux. This project is funded by the 2009 bond issue at a cost of $2,370,213.00. “We anticipate correction of the flooding problems in the St. Peter area and ask residents to have patience during construction. This project will be of great benefit to the area in the long run,” stated Robottom.
