Renovations to the Health and Human Services (HHS) building are slated to begin Monday, March 14, 2011. The expected time of completion is four months, during which services will be provided at 975 Cambridge Drive in LaPlace. Residents in need of assistance can visit the Department of Health and Human Services or call (985) 652-9569 or (985) 536-4955 for guidance.
Renovations to the building are being completed with grant funds from the Louisiana Government Assistance Program (LGAP) and the Parish’s building maintenance fund. The work, which went out for bid, is being performed by Lanco Construction Company of LaPlace at an estimated cost of $272,000.00. The existing Health and Human Services building is almost 30 years old and has served the Parish well over the years. However, the department has outgrown its current building and requires additional space to serve our increased population.
“The renovations will help our staff work more efficiently and serve our clients in a more professional and systematic manner,” said Health and Human Services Director, Elois Joseph. As this department is one that is visited by many residents, the new design will include eight offices, a waiting room, a conference room, and a small kitchen. “We look forward to completion of the renovations to the HHS building because of the positive impact it will have on our residents,” said Parish President Robottom.
