ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – Parish President Natalie Robottom and her staff, with assistance from AECOM Consultants, recently completed a year-long planning process for a proposed Multi-Modal Transportation Center. Officials will unveil the plan through a public presentation at 10 am on Friday, March 29th at the Edmond “Skipper” Songy Service Center, 102 E Airline Hwy in LaPlace. The event is free and to the public.
In addition to conceptualizing a commuter-rail station that ties in the future New Orleans – Baton Rouge passenger rail station, the project also identifies other opportunities to spur economic development in the area along Main Street in LaPlace. This includes a train station, commercial/residential units, retail space, and space for public meetings, rentals and other civic uses.
The Parish was awarded grant funds to study the station area location, develop a land use plan, and forecast the impacts of the resulting economic development and traffic changes and selected AECOM consultant team to gather data, meet with stakeholders and the public, and develop alternatives for Parish consideration.
