Thursday, March 29, 2018

St. John the Baptist Parish - Parish President Natalie Robottom & Administrative staff,  Sheriff Mike Tregre, Assessor Lucien Gauff & Councilman Kurt Becnel joined Council on Aging Director Cheryl Parquet, staff and members of the community for a grand opening and tour of the new Senior Citizen Center in Edgard on Wednesday.  Senior citizens, elected officials and the general public were invited to tour the new 3,000 square foot facility, now furnished and operational, that was completed at the end of last year.

In addition to the spacious activity room, kitchen and porch, President Robottom worked with Ms. Parquet and board members to recently add a serving door to the kitchen and a gate to access the patio for better functionality. During the open house, a plaque was also given to Brenda Mitchell, in honor of the late Leroy Mitchell, long time board member and senior citizen advocate.

Breakfast and lunch are served daily at the center and activities include Bingo, card games, birthday celebrations and field trips. All residents 60 years and over are welcome to visit the centers located in Edgard and Reserve.

Another joint project to build a public safety complex in Wallace for the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department is being designed and should begin construction in 2018.
