St. John Residents Invited to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebrations

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – Residents are invited to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at annual events held on the Eastbank and Westbank on Monday, January 15, 2018. 

On Monday January 15, a march will take place in LaPlace at 9:00 a.m., proceeding up Belle Pointe Blvd. down Airline Hwy to 1801 W. Airline Hwy.  Those interested in marching are asked to begin lining up at 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of 400 Ory Dr. and Belle Pointe Blvd. A rally will immediately follow the march at the New Wine Fellowship Center (1801 W. Airline Hwy.

The West St. John Civic Association is sponsoring its annual march beginning at 12:00pm from the Roland Borne, Sr. Memorial Library located at 2979 Highway 18 to West St. John Elementary School. The memorial program will begin immediately after the march at West St. John Elementary School located at 2555 Highway 18. The key note speaker for this event will be Floyd Luster, Jr. Former Councilman. The theme is, “Positive Changes come about through Positive Actions.”

Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, honors the achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr, who advocated the use of nonviolent means to end racial segregation and was instrumental in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.Please join the St. John Community in commemoration.
