St. John the Baptist Parish – At Tuesday night's Finance Committee meeting, the Parish Council approved several contracts at the request of Parish President Robottom. These contracts are needed to continue day -to-day operations of the Parish. The 2018 bid for fuel requirements is one of those contracts approved at the lowest cost to taxpayers.
President Robottom received authorization to execute a 6 month time extension for a contract with Principal Engineering, Inc for the Woodland/Fairway Drive Bridge Repair Project. In the upcoming months, the Woodland Bridge will be closed for repairs due to its deteriorating condition. Once plans for an alternate route to the Waste Water Treatment Plant are finalized and the design is completed, a construction contract for repairs will be solicited. “The Woodland Bridge will be the fourth bridge repair completed in the last several year along with Fairway Dr., Country Club Dr. and Greenwood Dr.,” said Robottom.
The Council also authorized execution of a contract for Code Enforcement Inspector with Ronald D. Comminie. The one year contract is for twenty hours per week to investigate, research and respond to complaints of possible Parish code violations. Residents can file complaints online at sjbparish.com or by calling the office at (985) 651-5565 and an inspection will be completed and violation issued if warranted.
In other business, a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) was approved with St. James Parish, the Town of Gramercy, Town of Lutcher, River Parishes Tourist Commission and the Festival of the Bonfires, Inc. to allow for St. John’s participation in the Festival of the Bonfires. The Public Safety Department will issue permits for bonfires on the east and west banks of the Parish, November 15, 2017 through December 9, 2017, during normal business hours at the Emergency Operations Center located at 1801 W. Airline Hwy in LaPlace.
