Parish Services Shored Up During Recent Finance Meeting

Wednesday, July 26, 2017

St. John the Baptist Parish – At Tuesday's Finance Committee Meeting, authorization was granted to Parish President Natalie Robottom to move forward with contracts to improve basic services and provide better service and quality of life to residents.

Bids were opened for construction of the Pleasure Bend Water Treatment Facility. To meet Safe Drinking Water Standards, a well system capable of producing over 70,000 gallons of water per day is planned for Pleasure Bend.  With increasing cost and compliance issues with water purchased from St. James Parish, a well system is being constructed for this small, rural community.  The target date to begin this project is October.

The Office of Fire Services was granted approval to proceed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Sheriff’s Office for the construction of a new communications'tower in Mt. Airy.  Fire Services will contribute $165,000 to cover foundation costs for the $2.4 million project to provide better, more reliable radio communications for first responders in the westernmost areas of the Parish.

In other news, a contract was executed with Emergency Restoration, Inc of New Orleans for Disaster Restoration and Recovery Services. When activated, this standby contract allows for restoration and recovery of parish-owned buildings following man-made or natural disasters. The contract replaces the previous contract which expired as we enter the heart of hurricane season.
