Each year, November is recognized as National Adoption Awareness Month. This year's awareness initiative implores adoption professionals to focus on ways to recruit and retain parents for children and youth in foster care.
Parish President Natalie Robottom, parish officials, and members from the Department of Children and Family Services will honor families who have adopted children from the foster care system in the Thibodaux Region. This region includes the seven parishes of St. John the Baptist, St. James, St. Charles, Ascension, Assumption, Lafourche, and Terrebonne.
The celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. on the front lawn of the Percy D. Hebert Building. Parish President Robottom will proclaim November as Adoption Awareness Month and participate in a balloon release representing the forty-five adopted children in the region, the twenty remaining children available for adoption and the 419 abused and neglected children remaining in State's custody.
The Region's Adoptive Family of the Year will be honored and give testimony to the adoption process and its many rewards. "Please join us in celebrating the children and families united by the adoption process in our region," said Parish President Robottom.
