St. John the Baptist Parish - On Friday, January 20th, 2017, the St. John the Baptist Parish Administration and Grants Department hosted a successful contractor networking and workforce development event in Reserve to help merge large and small businesses with individual contracting/subcontracting agencies.
Over 50 individuals attended the event including contractors who were able to identify qualified potential subcontractors that can help complete government contracts and receive information on upcoming opportunities in St. John Parish. In addition, expert presenters detailed steps on how to become a sub-contractor, and offered financial assistance and tax services. Vendors including Trufund Financial Services, Liftfund New Orleans, and Demetria Carter C.P.A. Firm were onsite.
The event is part of a series of workshops hosted by Parish officials to assist with the solicitation of licensed contractors for programs associated with a $32 million Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) received in 2013 to help the Parish recover from Hurricane Isaac. Funding is being allocated through housing programs (Rehabilitation, Elevation, Homebuyer Assistance, Small Rental, and Demolition & Clearance) to facilitate unmet needs from the storm.
“We are excited about the possibility of the sub-contractors partnering with the Prime Contractors to assist with the CDBG home repairs. Adding sub-contractors will increase the contractor’s pool and also increase the number of homes that will be repaired in a timely manner. All which is essential for a successful program,” said Grant Administrator, Myra Alexis-Valentine.
Additional upcoming CDBG workshops include:
