 Funeral Services Announced for District Chief Spencer Chauvin

St. John the Baptist Parish – Funeral arrangements for St. John hero District Chief Spencer Chauvin will be held this Thursday September 1, 2016 and held with full fire service honors.

Memorial service and visitation will take place from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at the St. John Parish Community Center, 2900 Hwy 51 in Laplace. A procession will leave the center at approximately 1:00 pm and escort Chief Chauvin to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard for a mass at 2:30 pm and burial on the church grounds thereafter.

During the procession, beginning around 12:45 pm, Airline Highway will be completely closed to through traffic between Hwy 51 and Gramercy. Motorists should use an alternate route for this period of time. Community members and outside agencies who are wishing to pay respect to Chief Chauvin are encouraged to line alongside the roadway during the procession. (Click for route).  

District Chief Chauvin was killed in the line of duty on the morning of Sunday, August 28, 2016 after a life dedicated to public service and his family. “We lost one of the bravest and most dedicated firefighters that I know,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom. “Our thoughts, prayers and full support go out to his family, as well as to the families of the other 2 firefighters involved in the accident. Please continue to pray for all involved and please pray for our community.”
