 Tornado Awareness Course Open to Public

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – St. John the Baptist Parish is hosting a Tornado Awareness class on Monday, July 25 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist Parish Library in LaPlace.

Sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), the course helps participants better understand the basics of tornado science, the weather forecasting process and the tornado warning process. Participants will also receive information on safety measures for themselves, their families and their organizations in preparation for tornado season.

Course topics include:

  • Science of Tornadoes
  • Weather Forecast Process
  • Tornado Warning Process
  • Tornado Safety

The St. John the Baptist Parish main library is located at 2920 Hwy 51 in LaPlace. Participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (SID) number to be able to attend and participate in DHS/FEMA classes.
