Parish Youth Participate in St. John Night at the Pelicans Game

St. John the Baptist Parish - On Sunday, March 20, over 100 St. John Parish youth, Parish President Natalie Robottom and Recreation Department Director Kerry Watkins and staff watched the New Orleans Pelicans take flight against the Los Angeles Clippers at St. John Night at the Pelicans Game.

Prior to the game, participants enjoyed tailgating fun which included complimentary jambalaya, drinks, and chips. Attendees also received the opportunity to play basketball on the Pelicans Court, watch the Pelicans players warm up and take photos, and meet Pelicans players and coaches.

Raising Cane’s of LaPlace, the Recreation Basketball Season Sponsor, provided free Achievement Award Certificates to attendees that included a free kids combo. The group was also recognized during the game on the video screen as the group of the night and received basketball cups and jerseys to take home as souvenirs. "This event was a great opportunity to close out another successful Basketball season with refreshments and fun,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom. “Providing activities and events for our youth is very rewarding and we look forward to continuing to create positive experiences for them in the future.”

The Parks and Recreation Department was instrumental in organizing the event for the Parish and obtaining sponsors to assist with the purchase of tickets.  “Pelicans night was a huge success with over 30 volunteers,” said Watkins. “It was very touching to hear kids say this is the best day of their life! In addition, I want to thank the coaches and the parents for their hard work and commitment in making St. John recreation a success.  We are excited about the direction the department is going and looking forward to great things ahead.”
