 Common Permitting Questions After a Disaster

If your property is within the Damage Area, you WILL need a permit for:

  • Structural work to roof or building*
  • Repair or replacement of more than two windows
  • New sheds
  • Trade permits (electrical, a/c, etc.)
  • Carports/patio covers
  • Generators
  • Renovations
  • Elevations
  • Foundation work
  • New buildings/placement of mobilehomes
  • Swimming pools

*May need a permit depending on scope of work


If your property is within the Damage Area, you WILL NOT need a permit for:

  • Cosmetic work
  • Replacing shingles*
  • Fences
  • Repair or replacement of up to twowindows
  • Demolition
  • Sign repair*

*May need a permit depending on scope of work


How to apply for a permit:

Bring in the following materials:

  • Completed application–available online at http://www.sjbparish.com/
  • Deed or act of sale
  • Description of the scope of work
  • Set of building plans**
  • Fees

**Only required for new construction or major renovation


Temporary Housing:

An allowance for temporary housing in the affected areas may be in effect soon.
