Thursday, June 25, 2015

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH - Louisiana Economic Development, the Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association, and the Louisiana Quality Foundation hosted their 2015 Lantern Award Ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion on Wednesday, June 16, 2015.

Lantern Award winners are selected by Louisiana’s eight Regional Planning and Development Districts based on the manufacturer’s contributions to their communities, including investments in employment growth and facility expansion.  Excellence in manufacturing, outstanding service to their communities through involvement of their business and employees, and operating at least three years prior to the nomination are all criterion for the award.

Nominated by Parish President Natalie Robottom, DSC Dredge, LLC of Reserve was selected by South Central Planning and Development as the 2015 Lantern Award winner for the Bayou Region.   The Bayou Region is comprised of six parishes including St. John the Baptist, Terrebonne, Lafourche, Ascension, St. James, and St. Charles.  The award was presented by Quentin L. Messer Jr, Assistant Secretary for the Louisiana Economic Development to Bob Wetta, President and CEO of DSC Dredge, LLC.  “A special congratulations to Bob and Bill Wetta on receiving this prestigious award as a local business in St. John the Baptist Parish.   This award serves to recognize the growth and prosperity of small businesses and their impact on the community,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom.  “We are truly pleased to have you and your company in our parish and applaud you on your employment growth and facility expansion.”

Award winners receive lanterns handcrafted and donated by Bevolo Gas & Electric Lights of New Orleans. The lanterns have become an internationally recognized trademark of New Orleans, and Bevolo is the oldest and largest copper gas lantern manufacturer in the U.S. and the second-oldest in the world.

DSC Dredge, LLC has remained a locally owned and family operated business in Reserve since 1989 and has focused on a hands-on philosophy and commitment to their customers.  Serving as the world leader in portable dredges, DSC has developed a dominant role in the dredge manufacturing industry. “I would like to thank St. John the Baptist Parish for the nomination and for recognizing small businesses as a part of their industry.  It is typical for awards such as these to be presented to large companies; however, it is an honor to be recognized and appreciated for our efforts as a small business,” said Robert (Bob) Wetta, President and CEO of DSC Dredge, LLC.  “A special thanks also goes to all of the employees at DSC Dredge who put forth the effort day in and day out to make these awards achievable,” he added.
