At Tuesday’s council meeting, contracts addressing business outreach services and quality of life projects were approved as recommended by the Administration.

In an effort to continue outreach services to new and existing businesses, an agreement with EME Consulting Group of LaPlace was authorized in an amount not to exceed $122,904.  The agreement which is managed through the Department of Economic Development includes a variety of components such as increasing small business retention; building small business organizational capacity; and assisting small companies to increase profitability, employment and business opportunities in the parish.  The programs provide business owners an open line of communications with the parish before, during and after beginning a business in St. John the Baptist Parish.  With a goal of facilitating successful business operations, face to face interactions, referrals, training and follow-up visits are conducted and include notification of business and funding opportunities.

Through an agreement with the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, children ages 5 to 17 will again have the opportunity to receive free swimming lessons at the Alex Roland Reese Swimming Pool through the Ashley Kelly Swim Program.  Funded through the Parks and Recreation Department, participants will receive five, forty-five minute lessons with Water Safety Instructors to learn swimming skills and safety in, on, and around water.  Sessions will be held on June 22 – 26 and on July 13 – 17.  Lessons will be held in sessions between 5:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.  Interested participants should contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 985-652-9569 to register.

The 2015 bid for water and sewer fittings was awarded to Baton Rouge Winwater Works and Cimsco, Inc.  This contract allows the Utilities Department to have access to materials at a set price throughout the year.
