Mississippi River Water Levels Drop Below 11 Feet

Thursday, May 21, 2015

Water levels in the Mississippi River have dropped below 11 feet at the Carrollton gauge located in New Orleans. Based on information received from the Pontchartrain Levee District (PLD), any and all activity and/or work, including subsurface work, excavation, etc., on the batture or within 1500’ of the Mississippi River levee centerline requires a Letter of No Objection from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the Pontchartrain Levee District. You can find said requirements at www.leveedistrict.org.

Contractors working within 1500 feet of the Mississippi River should refer to construction permits which provide guidelines and restrictions based on the Mississippi River water levels.

The Pontchartrain Levee District will continue daily inspections of the Mississippi River Levee. Should any questions arise, please contact the St. John the Baptist Parish Department of Public Safety at 985-652-2222 or the PLD at 225-869-9721.
