Weather Event: Flash Flood Warning in Effect

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – This afternoon St. John the Baptist Parish experienced parish-wide heavy rainfall, strong wind, and dime to quarter-size hail. Although the severe thunderstorm has passed, St. John the Baptist Parish remains under a Flash Flood Warning until 6:15 p.m. and a Flash Flood Watch until 7:00 p.m. tonight.

Within only 45 minutes, 1.5 inches of rain was recorded at the Emergency Operations Center in LaPlace. With already saturated grounds, Reserve, LaPlace, and Garyville are currently experiencing sporadic street flooding. As a result of the weather event, power outages occurred through St. John the Baptist Parish in Edgard, LaPlace, Reserve and Garyville. Entergy has dispatched crews to repair power lines and expects power to be restored by 9:00 p.m.

St. John the Baptist Parish Emergency Responders are in close communications with the National Weather Center and will continue to work through the weather event. Public Works and Utilities crews are assessing pump stations and lift stations at this time in addition to clearing roadways and removing trees. Crews will remain on standby should another pop-up storm occur. Residents should call 9-1-1 to report any street flooding to allow for proper dispatch of Parish employees.
