Flash Flood Watch in Effect for St. John through Thursday

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – A deep plume of moisture from the southern Gulf of Mexico will remain over the area while a few disturbances move through. Repeated and prolonged heavy rainfall up to 3 to 6 inches will impact different locations through Thursday, March 12. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of Southeast Louisiana including St. John the Baptist Parish and Southern Mississippi through Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

With already saturated grounds, excessive rainfall may cause flooding in low-lying areas and roadways. Please use caution when venturing outdoors or operating vehicles in heavy rainfall.

Residents are asked to assist with removing debris from catch basins and storm drains to assist with drainage during this ongoing rain event. Public Works and Utilities crews will be on hand in the event issues arise with drainage and utility systems.  Please stay tuned in to local weather stations for changes in the forecasts as this system moves over the Gulf of Mexico and through the area.

Residents should report any issues or concerns during the rain event to 9-1-1. Please also sign up to receive emergency notifications to your home phone, cell phone, email or SMS text messaging device by visiting the homepage of the Parish’s website at and clicking on “Stay Connected.”
