St. John the Baptist Parish is looking forward to annual Mardi Gras parades set to roll this weekend. The Towahpahsah Parade will begin at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14 and with over 90 units, the Krewe Du Monde Parade will roll at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, February 15.
St. John Parish officials have met with representatives from each parade as well as emergency responders and all agencies who assist with logistics for both parades.
The Towahpahsah and Krewe Du Monde Parades will follow their traditional routes in Reserve and LaPlace. Public bathrooms will be placed on parish servitudes throughout the parade routes for utilization by “parade-goers”. Streets will be closed approximately fifteen minutes before the parade arrives.
Northbound lanes on Belle Terre Blvd at Fairway Blvd. are expected to close at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday until the parade ends. St. John the Baptist
Parish as well as representatives from both parades ask that everyone remain safe along the parade routes. Emergency responders have developed a plan for response during parade times. "Residents are encouraged to come out and enjoy our local parades this weekend. With weather appearing to be on our side, our parades provide the perfect setting for family and friends to celebrate Mardi Gras in St. John Parish," said Parish President Natalie Robottom.
