The Canadian National (CN) Railroad will begin a construction project on Daffodil Street in Mt. Airy this week and continue through October. The project will include removal of the existing railroad crossing at Daffodil Street, installation of a cul-de-sac on the North side of the railroad crossing and construction of a roadway connecting Daffodil Street and Marquez Street on the south side of the railroad track. The majority of the construction will take place on the south side of the railroad track between Daffodil and Marquez Street.
Residents will have access to their homes and road closures are not expected throughout the duration of the project; however, flagmen will be on site as a precaution. The existing crossing is expected to be removed indefinitely in mid-October. Construction crews will work from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
All fire departments and emergency personnel have been advised of the railroad work and response routes will be altered as necessary.
Once the railroad crossing is removed, residents on the North side of Daffodil will access Hwy 54 via Oak Park Blvd. and residents on the South side of Daffodil will access Hwy 54 via River Road.
Additional information will be released as the project progresses. Should any concerns arise during the project, please contact the Communications Department at 985-652-9569.
