Friday, August 22, 2014

Parish President Natalie Robottom and Vincent Lucia were recently notified that the Finance Department will receive their second national finance award for governmental budgeting this year. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award will be presented by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for St. John's 2014 budget. This award has been presented to approximately 1,400 participants to date, including budgets for fiscal year 2013.

The award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The Parish was required to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation which includes a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communication’s device. The budget was rated “proficient” in all four categories and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories by the GFOA. “This is a first award of this type for the Parish, suggesting we are moving in the right direction; I could not be more proud of our team,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom. “We remain committed to strengthening the Parish's financial position through a healthy budget, presented in a transparent format,” she added.

Vince Lucia, Chief Financial Officer, received a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation as the designated individual primarily responsible for the budget. “I appreciate the hard work of our finance department and everyone who spent countless hours working on the budget and the budget presentation. To receive this Certificate of Recognition is a team effort, and this certificate signifies the work completed by the entire team, not just myself,” said Lucia. A GFOA representative will present the award to the Finance Department in approximately eight to ten weeks.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 18,000 government finance professional throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
