Parish Transfers Land for Expansion of Technical College

Monday, June 2, 2014

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH - President Natalie Robottom, Council Members Gauff, Millet, Madere, Snyder and Wright joined Director, Dr. Earl Meador and Campus Administrator, Cindy Poskey at the South Central Louisiana Technical College-Reserve Campus for a Land Transfer Celebration on Thursday, May 29, 2014. The celebration was held to commemorate the transfer of land to the college for expansion of its Reserve Campus.  Other guests included Community & Technical College System (CTCS) Board Member, Steve Smith, River Region Chamber of Commerce member, Mike Palamone, Technical College employees, members of the River Region Chamber, and industry representatives.

The land allocation is adjacent to the existing facility and is valued at $857,000.  It will be used for the addition of a 20,000 square foot Advance Technology building, a 9,000-square foot addition to the process technology building and a 3,400-square foot medical wing for the school’s medical programs. “This project has been in the works for some time now, and I am pleased to see it moving closer to fruition,” said Parish President Robottom. “By making this long-term investment, it ensures that our residents have an opportunity to attend college here, get jobs here and ultimately stay in the parish.”

Cindy Poskey, Campus Administrator, expressed her gratitude to the Parish and said she is confident the expansion will help to meet the growing influx of students wanting to attend the Technical College. “Upon completion of the expansion, our college will continue on a path to success and allow enrollment of more than 400 additional students.” A bill approved by the Louisiana Legislature, “Act 360”, will serve as the primary funding source for the technical college enhancements. Poskey explained that the college must provide a 12 percent match and is well on its way to doing so with the land transfer. Valero, Dow, Arcelor Mittal, Marathon Petroleum, and Associated Terminals also made financial contributions toward the improvements.  A groundbreaking ceremony is slated for the beginning of 2015.

The SCL Technical College River Parishes Campus is located at 181 Regala Park Road in Reserve. For more information on campus programs or enrollment please contact them at 985-536-4418.
