 Additional Rainfall Threats Area for Today through Friday

Thursday, May 29, 2014 – 11:45 a.m.

After approximately 9-12 inches of rain on Thursday in western St. John the Baptist Parish, shower and thunderstorm activity has diminished temporarily. Additional rainfall is expected today and will continue into early evening hours bringing possibly 3 to 4 more inches of rain to some areas. A Flash Flood Watch has been extended for St. John Parish through Friday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m.
Road conditions, drainage and wastewater systems are improving and all roadways are passable. With already saturated grounds, there remains a threat of street flooding.

The Health and Human Services Department and the American Red Cross are continuing to work with flood victims in Mount Airy.
Residents are urged to report any drainage problems, threat of water entering homes, or utilities problems by dialing 9-1-1. The Office of Emergency Preparedness remains in contact with the National Weather Service and will provide updates as necessary.
